Business can make for strange bedfellows, and it’s interesting to hear the WWE is reaching out once more to Tony Kahn, asking for permission to interview some former WWE stars currently with AEW.
It’s not the first time this has happened as the companies worked out arrangements for Chris Jericho to appear on Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions on Peacock in April.
For us, it’s a cool sight seeing the crossover happen, even if it’s only for interviews for more documentaries or other specials.
It shows there isn’t any or enough animosity between Vince McMahon and Tony Kahn to prevent them from coming to a deal and it benefits both companies and fans.
The WWE’s classy approach
We’d expect a billion dollar company to approach anyone they want to do business with with class and respect, and Tony Kahn said that’s what happened.
Tony appeared on My Mom’s Basement podcast (link shared above), and he talked about being contacted and how he’s open to working with the WWE.
“They wanted to interview some of the people that wrestle here that used to wrestle there and some people that have had history there or the other libraries that they own. So, we’ll see. I think I’m open to talking.”
“As long as everything’s classy. And just the way they approached me was very classy. So I have nothing bad to say about that. So, I don’t know if we’ll see that … but I’m considering some of these requests on some of these biographies and it was actually a very nice call I received the other day.”
Upcoming biographies
There’s no lack of love for former WWE wrestlers and managers as we’ve seen them bring in older stars to help put the younger ones over or for a quick ratings or viewership boost.
Part of that makes sense to try to draw more fans to Peacock with bios and other documentaries, especially given the popularity and positive response to Dark Side of the Ring.
So, we’re curious who they’re referring to and what they have in mind for them since they left the company.
We’re also curious if AEW will start doing more of that themselves, like even a highlight show on the weekend similar to old WWE programming could help them build their viewership.
Do you think there’s a possibility of AEW and WWE having more of a partnership than having stars do interviews or biographies? Let us know in the comments below.
