It wouldn’t have been a lie to call HOOK a fan favorite even before tonight’s episode of AEW Rampage. The son of Taz, HOOK was a crucial part of Team Taz. He was there for beatdowns and contract talks alike, with the Taz yelling to “SEND HOOK” being one of the best soundbytes to come from AEW.
Even memes like “CM Punk Fears Hook” would gain traction, getting fan signs all through the AEW audiences. However, after tonight – HOOK cemented himself as a star with his debut match, and the world took notice.
Near Universal Acclaim For HOOK Following His Debut Match, From AEW Staff & Beyond
It’s not uncommon for someone to get a wave of support following a big debut, but HOOK got that and then some. From Tony Khan himself saying “SEND HOOK… TO THE MOON BECAUSE HE WAS OUT OF THE WORLD TONIGHT!” to even the Salt of The Earth himself MJF tweeting out a hook emoji, HOOK’s acclaim was universal.
Some highlights are as follows from the sea of tweets following his debut.
Bryce Remsburg: Can’t wait to tell my grandkids I officiated HOOK’s first match. Probably a whole chapter in the autobiography. AEW Rampage starts in 10 minutes on TNT. Be a part of history.
Aubrey Edwards: They finally sent him! Congrats on a great debut match, bro. Welcome to the family 🙂
Lee Moriarty: He got an Action Bronson song for his theme, AF1 style boots AND he’s icy in the ring. He got it.
Powerhouse Hobbs: Fear Hook.
Danhausen: HOOK has great famous haircuts just like Danhausen.
How Fast Will He Rise Through The AEW Roster?
This does beg a question however – and that is how fast will HOOK rise. It’s clear he had an impressive debut, blowing that of Anthony Ogogo earlier this year out of the water. His attitude is hard, his theme song is one of the best in AEW, and his in-ring skills showed skills beyond his years. He’s got a faction to back him up, and while fans want Ricky Starks to be the breakout star of Team Taz – he might be a supporting act after tonight.
Taz can do the talking for HOOK, covering up that potential pitfall. It’s not hard to see him as a contender for the TNT Championship in 2022. Current champion Sammy Guevara would be a great fit for a future opponent, being similar to Fuego Del Sol in style. However looking further ahead – if HOOK continues to put in the work and improve, he will be an easy contender for even the AEW World Championship.
Are people putting too much pressure on HOOK after one match? Is he the breakout star that AEW has been looking for? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
