Since returning to WWE back in 2017, Drew McIntyre has been able to make a huge impact. He bet on himself and bettered himself on the indies, only to come back and claim the NXT Championship and two reigns as WWE Champion. As one of the top names in WWE, he’s faced the best of the best – matching up with the likes of Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, and Bobby Lashley. However, there is one man that he’s never met in singles action.
Drew McIntyre Wants Cesaro One On One
While speaking with Graham Matthews of Bleacher Report – McIntyre would express interest in wrestling Cesaro in a singles match.
“Oh yeah, Cesaro is definitely on my list. “I have to mention him any chance I get and the fact we haven’t faced each other considering we’ve been on the same rosters over the years. We’ve both wrestled 20 years apiece. We’ve never had a singles match, which is pretty unbelievable. I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter on my social media that he also brought it up this week, so I think it’s only a matter of time before that match happens.”
McIntyre & Cesaro have wrestled – just never in singles action. They’ve met 12 times since 2013, but always in tag team or battle royals.
A Potential Match For The Hopeful UK PPV In 2022?
Right now, WWE is hoping to get to the UK for a PPV event in 2022. It’s been quite some time since WWE brought a major event to the region – and an empty slot in the PPV schedule for September 2022 has fans hopeful that will finally be their moment.
With McIntyre from Scotland & Cesaro from Switzerland, they’d be close to home in the UK – and have massive fanbases in the region. Having them clash for a belt such as the Intercontinental Championship in a major match at the event would steal the show – to the point where it probably would be best served as the main event.
Right now, WWE is worried about a potential lockdown bringing them back to the WWE Thunderdome. Hopefully by September the situation is able to clear up. This would allow UK fans to get their long awaited PPV.
