Tonight was a major event for NWA with Hard Times 2. All their belts were on the line, Darius Lockhart made his debut for the company, Mick Foley showed up as Santa Clause – and Trevor Murdoch remained the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He was able to defeat another heavy hitter in Mike Knox, but was up to the challenge. After the bell however – he’d quickly get to meet his next challenger as Matt Cardona attacked.
Matt Cardona Is Eager To Hold Gold Again
Better known to some by his WWE name of Zack Ryder, Cardona has been proving he’s one of the most entertaining wrestlers in the world in 2021. From his time in GCW where he proved he’s a deathmatch icon against Nick Gage to reaching a main event level in Impact Wrestling – Cardona has proven WWE wrong in keeping him low on cards.
At Impact Wrestling: Hard To Kill, he will challenge Moose for the Impact Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, but that’s not the only top belt he’s interested in. During the closing moments of Hard Times 2 – Cardona would lay out a tired Trevor Murdoch and raise the Ten Pounds of Gold high.
A Traveling Champion Is What The NWA Needs
Right now, the NWA is surviving but lacks the hype they had back in 2019. Nick Aldis being champion for so long did them no favours, and Trevor Murdoch isn’t doing much to move the needle. This is where someone like Matt Cardona comes into the picture as a great option. Right now, whatever he does gets a high level of buzz, as he has been able to maintain his big WWE fanbase even after his release.
Cardona is someone who is working anywhere possible, and always giving 110% in his matches. NWA has a chance to put the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on a travelling champion, who could finally bring them back to the island of relevancy.
Aldis did his best to be this champion, but it wasn’t enough. Murdoch has tried his best but they need someone in the prime of their career. Cardona is the right man at the right time, and NWA has a chance to make a great choice after this PPV ending.
