Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been warned about the backlash they could receive after suggestions that the Canadian taxpayer is continuing to finance their security during visits.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Criticised For Making The Canadian Tax Payer Pay For Their Security
The duo, for their part, have made no secret over their fondness for the country. They have visited it numerous times since they began dating in 2016.
And ever since they left the Royal family, they have been dividing their time between the US, Canada and the UK. But given that the pair are such high profile individuals, the cost of having security for them has not been cheap.
TV host Morgan Hoffman had a lot to say on the matter. In an official statement, she said: “Ever wonder how much it costs for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to travel to Canada?
“Well, keeping them safe during their visits comes with a very hefty price. I don’t know what that price tag is, but I know whatever it is, it’s gonna infuriate people.”
According to reports, Harry and Meghan have cost the taxpayer around $334,000 so far. That is a huge price, but it is one that they will have to justify to prevent the criticism that is going to come their way.
Just like Meghan is doing in the United States, the couple could try and give back to the country in some way as a way to ward off the backlash.
This is a big problem, as people cannot fathom why their security needs to be taken care of when they decided to leave the Royal family. Roz Weston, who also happens to be a TV host, stated the following: “They were here in Vancouver hiding when they had stepped back.
“The notion was that the Government of the RCMP, whatever it was, wasn’t going to pay at first.” The two hosts certainly have a point, but whether this will lead to a rebellion that ends up in Meghan and Harry having to foot their own bill is anyone’s guess.
But sooner or later, this issue will have to be resolved one way or another as the criticism is only going to increase. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
