The British Royal family have been urged to protect Prince George from the upcoming hunting traditions on Boxing Day which some consider barbaric.
Royal Family Urged To Protect Prince George’s Mental Health By Not Exposing Him To Hunting
According to MyLondon, the Royal family often engage in hunting which includes shooting animals such as grouse or pheasants. Although this has been running throughout the years within the Royal family, there are concerns that making George attend such an event could end up having a negative impact on his mental health.
Mimi Bekhechi, who happens to be a director for the non-profit organisation entitled PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, raised concerns over how this could damage George.
In an interview, she remarked: “[This] is potentially as harmful to his or her psyche…It can desensitise children to the suffering of animals.
“[This] is cause for concern, given the well-established link between cruelty to animals in childhood and antisocial behaviour in adulthood.”
Not only that, but there is a contradictory element towards the British Royal family’s approach for the following reasons. First of all, Prince William has numerously spoken about the importance of trying to protect the environment. So much so that he is going to attend the Earthshot initiative in the United States next year which is designed to honour all those that have made a significant impact to protecting the environment.
Meanwhile, Prince William & Prince Harry along with many other royals have been life-long participants of blood sports including hunting – contradiction much?
Therefore, killing animals for the sake of entertainment in this manner is not going to send out the correct message. Secondly, by doing such a thing, it hardly sets an example for George who is most likely going to follow in William’s footsteps.
Mimi added: “To help him grow into a responsible, compassionate leader, his parents must teach him respect for all living beings.”
Ultimately, this is something that will need to be addressed. It is, after all, not the first time that the Royal family have come under fire for hunting.
In 2014, William and Prince Harry were criticised for going on a boar hunting trip, while previously campaigning against poaching.
Time will tell what ends up happening, but given what we have seen so far throughout the British Royal family, it is very unlikely for this hunting tradition to stop given that it has become part of the fabric of the family.
