We have seen a great deal of talent get cut from their WWE contracts in 2021. In total, around 80 names were publicly released, with other cuts in places like the digital media department not getting nearly as much press. However, today we are focused on one name who was released after being pulled around and left aimless in WWE in Shane Thorne. After spending while under the gimmick of Slapjack, he was finally released – and now seems to be moving on from ‘Sports Entertainment’.
Shane Thorne Is Back In Professional Wrestling
His fans would be concerned when he sent out a tweet promising a “Retirement Announcement”, but it wouldn’t be what fans first expected. A video was attached, which saw Shane stay true to his word… but he’s leaving his retirement from professional wrestling. This was all explained by the man himself, who had the following to say.
“So it’s the end of the year, and the perfect time to reflect, take stock, and maybe think about my future a little bit. As I sit here in this nice place, knowing that I have a wonderful girl and two adorable puppies, I’ve got to say life’s pretty good! The last five years in entertainment have been very good to me. So, I think I’m done. I’m done with that. But now, it’s time to get back to what I do best, and that’s why I’m here to announce that in 2022, I am coming out of retirement and back to the world of professional wrestling.”
Getting The Band Back Together In NJPW?
While at first glance, this doesn’t seem to be a big deal – seeing as his WWE run was a bit of a letdown, but don’t let what you saw on TV fool you. Prior to signing with WWE, Shane was one of the top Australian names in Japan, making a name for himself in both tag team and singles competition. Alongside Mikey Nicholls in TMDK – Shane is a two time GHC Tag Team Champion, and won Tokyo Sports Tag Team of the Year in 2013.
He’s an incredible talent, and never really got the chance to show this in WWE. Right now, Nicholls is signed to NJPW and part of their CHAOS faction, with JONAH also showing up in NJPW via NJPW Strong. JONAH was another member of the TMDK faction, meaning something could be brewing there. It’s likely Shane finds his way to NJPW, and that would be huge for their tag team division.
