Earlier tonight, we reported on the reasons that Big Swole had left AEW. She felt the company lacked structure and diversity in their stars, which are both pretty valid complaints. However, the story couldn’t end there – as Twitter finds a way to make anyone look like a fool, as Tony Khan fell victim to tonight.
Tony Khan Insults Big Swole On Twitter
Responding to a report from Fightful.com about Big Swole’s reasons for leaving, Tony Khan would not address these issues – and instead took a shot at his former employee. Khan had the following to say about Big Swole.
“The top 2 AEW execs are brown (me & Megha)!! Jade, Bowens, Caster, Dante, Nyla, Isiah & Marq Quen all won on tv this month. The TBS Title Tournament has been very diverse. I let Swole’s contract expire as I felt her wrestling wasn’t good enough.”
Regardless of how you feel about the in-ring ability of Swole, it’s not a great image for the owner of the company to respond to valid criticisms like this. This also goes against comments Khan made in 2020, when he called Swole a “great wrestler” before saying she’s constantly improving. It has not sat well with fans, and one of the top young stars of AEW is ready to go to bat for Swole.
Lio Rush Is Not Impressed
Much like Big Swole, Lio Rush is not someone to keep his mouth shut. This has given him a polarizing opinion with some fans, but is an incredibly admirable quality for a young wrestler to have. You don’t change for the industry by keeping your mouth shut, and Rush seems to be hoping to change how things work.
Lio Rush made his feelings heard quickly, tweeting out “If nobody says something, then I will. Because this is fucked up and now I’m pissed.” before calling for Khan to apologize for these comments. At the same time, Ricky Starks simply got off Twitter- one of the smartest things an established wrestler can do.
<h3< Costing AEW A Big Free Agent?
This won’t even just effect those on the AEW roster, as indie standout Darius Lockhart has now denounced AEW in a series of tweets, stating the following.
“Absolutely not. This is completely disrespectful, not only to Swole, but to the black community that AEW has been consistently not listened to. I wanted to be a part of the change AEW so desperately needs but you’re showing that you’re willingly missing the point. It takes more than meeting a quota. It takes more than predetermined wins that you can count off in a single tweet. Your tactless response to Swole’s valid critiques have now shown us all what you truly think (or don’t think) about us as a community when we voice our concerns. Or what we truly provide as talent for that matter. Tony Khan, Professional Wrestling is committed to ignoring our power.”
The whole thread from Lockhart can be read here.
Does Tony Khan owe his talent and the AEW fans an apology for minimising the complaints Swole like this? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
