Dan Lambert can rest easy knowing he was able to successfully get Ethan Page another chance to be TNT Champion. Lambert did everything in his power to provoke Rhodes, and tonight in his first defense of his third reign as TNT Champion – The American Nightmare takes on All Ego. Should Page win here, Rhodes will have the shortest reign in the belts history, breaking his previous record of just 31 days.
Cody Rhodes Came To Fight
Rhodes would have to settle to come out a normal tunnel instead of the Cody Tunnel, while Ethan Page had a quick nap. Page has an impressive record in 2021, but Rhodes is the man with the gold! Even in Jacksonville, he gets a mixed reaction now – but better than some towns.
Rhodes would start fast with a bodyshot and snap powerslam before grabbing a side headlock takeover. Page broke free and hit a vertical suplex, before a big punch to the face. Arn Anderson was in the right spot to grab the ankle of Page to help Rhodes get the edge, before Rhodes got some punches to the forehead on the apron.
Page would resist Cross Rhodes off the apron, and nailed a big shoulder tackle. A fan helped Rhodes to his feet, only for Page to drive him into the ring post. Back in the ring, Rhodes hit a deep chopblock before sticking onto the left leg and applying a modified Indian Deathlock.
Page got a roll up for a two count, before Rhodes threw away the kneepad of Page and hit a Foot DDT. Rhodes was relentless on the attack of the knee, hitting a front suplex and goading Page to land on his knee. The Stump Puller was applied, but Page fought free and hit a big shoulder tackle.
Ethan Page Shows His Worth
Page was fired up, and managed a rushing lariat to drop Rhodes. A boot to the face didn’t stop him from getting a back body drop and a huge DDT for a two count. In the ring, Page would distract the referee while Sky got some cheap shots in. Dustin Rhodes made the save, and Rhodes set up Cross Rhodes in the ring for a two count.
Propping Page up on the top rope, Rhodes wanted Super Cross Rhodes. Instead Page was able to block and hit a Powerslam from the top rope, but the bad knee prevented a strong cover. In the middle of the ring, they’d trade heavy blows – but Ego’s Edge didn’t land before Rhodes was able to hit the Cody Cutter.
Rhodes would apply the Figure Four in the middle of the ring, but Page was able to reverse the pressure. The ropes were grabbed, and Rhodes got free. A big elbow strike caught Page, but Rhodes was slammed down after going to the second rope. Ego’s Edge was set again, but the knee was attacked. Cross Rhodes landed twice, and a Tiger Driver ‘98 would win the night.
