Right now, the path to WWE Day One seems uncertain following a slew of positive cases of COVID-19 in their locker room. Seth Rollins has been confirmed to have COVID, after revealing as much on his twitter account – and Big E, Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley, Becky Lynch and more also ended up on the sidelines. Despite all this, WWE has now decided to stop testing their talent for COVID-19.
WWE Are No Longer Testing Their Talent For COVID-19
This report first comes from Fightful Select, where Sean Ross Sapp revealed that WWE is no longer testing talent for COVID-19. Prior to this, main roster talent were tested twice in a week, and NXT talents once. This change has not been well received by talent, which is a fair call on their part – as this puts them at risk.
We can only hope that WWE will still be testing talent who appear ill, but right now it’s hard to gauge what they will do. The timing of this especially works to make WWE look bad. One of their top stars in Roman Reigns is immunocompromised, and this will only serve to put him at risk.
A Lockdown Of Professional Wrestling Could Come Once Again
Ignoring the state of the world will only prolong the inevitable within WWE. Right now, the highly contagious Omicron variant is a major threat, especially to the likes of sporting teams and professional wrestlers. AEW is just as at risk as WWE, as both companies have gotten lax with their fans and talent.
We know that both AEW & WWE will find ways to keep content coming. AEW has their fallback of Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, and WWE likely has the screens for the WWE Thunderdome at the ready. The show will go on, but it might be time for these companies to once again take things seriously. It’s unclear what testing procedures exist within AEW, but we can only hope they’re doing what they can to protect the talent and fans.
