Last night, WWE held a major show at the ‘Most Famous Arena in the World’, despite their roster being cut down by COVID-19. Due to this, two of the best from NXT were brought up to New York for a showcase match. Tommaso Ciampa would defend the NXT Championship against Pete Dunne, and the moment wasn’t lost on Ciampa.
Tommaso Ciampa Loves Working MSG
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Ciampa would have the following to say about getting to perform in Madison Square Garden.
“Stepping through the curtain, I immediately thought about Reggie Miller coming in here and playing for the Knicks, scoring eight points in nine seconds in the 1995 NBA playoffs. “I’m a huge Boston sports fan, so I thought about games between the Celtics and Knicks. It’s just amazing to be at Madison Square Garden.”
This was his second time wrestling in the venue, and hopefully won’t be his last. Being the face of NXT likely won’t change, even if Bron Breakker claims the NXT Championship at New Years Evil.
“I never take this for granted, especially being the face of NXT. It’s hard to come by these opportunities. The competition is through the roof. I have worked real hard to get to this point, so it’s been a fun time for me, one that I’m really enjoying.” said Ciampa about his duties as the top dog of NXT 2.0.
His Positive Opinion On Pete Dunne
His match with Dunne was considered one of the best to come from the show, perhaps second only to a surprise cagematch between Edge & Kevin Owens. It takes two to make a great match however, and Ciampa had a great dance partner in Dunne. They’ve barely televised singles matches, but Ciampa knows just how good Dunne is.
“Pete Dunne is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world,” said Ciampa. “This was only our second time ever wrestling a singles match, with the first being for his UK title in England. It’s a pleasure to share a ring with him. He’s a world-class person in and out of the ring.”
