Jacket Time has been foiling the plans of Grizzled Young Veterans for weeks, or laughing in their faces when failure strikes. They view them as disrespectful at best, and harmful to NXT at worst. Tonight, they plan on making the former NXT UK Tag Team Champions pay tonight in the ring. KUSHIDA & Ikeman Jiro are looking to get serious after weeks of being portrayed as a comedy act, which is what fans were wanting.
Jacket Time & Grizzled Young Veterans Both Want A Tag Team Championship Shot
KUSHIDA would start with James Drake, able to embarrass him on the mat with some fast grappling. Drake was already getting angry, and Zack Gibson calmed him down. KUSHIDA would come right back in with some quick kicks before going after the arm. Jiro would tag in for an axe handle to the arm, before KUSHIDA was back in to hit the Hammerlock arm snap.
Drake got the blind tag to Gibson, who pulled KUSHIDA out of the ring and held him in place for the suicide dive. Back in the ring, KUSHIDA would rush for the tag but Drake got another smart tag, this time allowing him to come in behind KUSHIDA and nail a neckbreaker. The Creed Brothers came to the ringside area to scout the tag team division some, as KUSHIDA made the big comeback and got the tag.
Jiro would hit a big rolling wheel kick, before some jacket coated shoteis and a big German Suplex. Gibson tagged in and took a springboard crossbody alongside Drake. KUSHIDA got the tag, and a double hip toss into double dropkick landed. Hoverboard Lock was attempted, but Drake helped free Gibson with a dropkick.
Helter Skelter landed, but KUSHIDA kicked out at two. The Creed Brothers gave a distraction to GYV on the outside, and this would allow KUSHIDA & Jiro to set up the tag team finisher – a neckbreaker and Swanton Bomb!
That match needed five more minutes, but it was as great as four talented wrestlers can get with a limited slot. Jammed a lot of action in, and all of it was smooth. The NXT Tag Team division really just needs more time, as it’s packed with talent. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** ¼)
Roderick Strong has beaten all comers in the NXT Cruiserweight division, and even went above his weight class to crush Joe Gacy. Always looking for bigger and stronger competition, Strong now sets his sights on Bron Breakker. Breakker has only suffered a single loss in NXT, that being to Tommaso Ciampa, so Strong will have his work cut out for him tonight.
Roderick Strong Brings Out The Best In Bron Breakker,
Strong was not intimidated when faced with Bron, going right for a single leg and being thrown off. Bron went for a takedown, and Strong would stop it like a pro. Strong took the leg and tripped Bron up, getting a front headlock. Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams were watching on, happy as Bron rolled Strong into a delayed vertical suplex.
Strong rolled to the outside, and caught Bron with a backbreaker right onto the announce table. He could probably hit a backbreaker in his sleep by this point, and they’re always very targeted. Back in the ring, he’d take the control and bend Bron in the middle of the ring. Bron broke free for a moment, before taking a dropkick right to the face and ending up back at Square One.
Strong grabbed the front headlock, and Bron found the way out before failing to get the belly to belly suplex. Bron would take a big gutbuster, but was able to fight off the Strong Hold. He’d follow up by catching Strong out of the sky with a slam, before getting some speed off running shoulder tackles and the Frankensteiner!
The Belly to Belly got a two count, before Bron drove Strong into the corner. A spinning chop stunned Bron, and he’d learn why the strikes of Strong are second to none. Three running elbows and the Olympic Slam would get a two count, before the superplex was set. Bron would be taken down into the middle of the ring, and Strong moved right into a Tiger Bomb for two!
The jumping knee was caught into a big slam, and Bron took the straps down. He’d hoist Strong up into the Military Press, and slam him down with a powerslam for the win. He outlasted Strong, and finished stronger.
Bron Breakker is the breakout star of NXT 2.0, but Roderick Strong remains the workhouse of the brand. This is second to only the match from Halloween Havoc, and once again showed the skills of Breakker. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
After the match, Ciampa would catch Bron slipping and nailed him with Willow’s Bell onto the NXT Championship belt. At WarGames he won the battle, but Ciampa is always ready to win the war. Will Bron be the one to take the belt off Ciampa? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
