There’s no denying that Vince McMahon and the WWE have a certain type of woman they look for when recruiting talent. Even Jim Cornette has stated it as women fitting the mold of Sable.
That’s not all to it, but given the WWE’s new restrictions for signing new male talent as they have to be tall and big, which means no more cruiserweights as the WWE will once again become the land of the giants.
As for the women, they’re going by much more than just how they look as their presence and what kind of character they bring goes a long way according to several reports.
But there are always rumors.
Gotta fit the mold
This information comes by way of Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio as he gave an updates on the WWE’s hiring policy.
Special thanks to @the_wrestling_news2 for the transcript.
Meltzer said: “The idea for women and guys is different. For guys, they’re wanting bigger athletes. For women, it’s looks, or if you have something unique to offer. Even on the indie thing, if someone’s like, really super on the indies, it’s not like WWE won’t hire them, but they’re not looking at the 5’9” guys or the 5’7” guys anymore. But if you come from the Indies but you’re 6’3”, yeah, they’ll look at you, and if you’re a woman and you’re ‘good looking’, you know, whatever.”
It’s not that looking for specific types is anything new as the 1980s and 1990s WWE shows, but they weren’t all giants or had perfect physiques in the men and women’s division. It was a perfect era of characters that were over the top and grabbed hold of us.
With the Attitude Era still fresh on many fans’ minds, it’s hard not to think of the sexy raunchiness of that time given the WWE’s new policies.
While it’s hard to believe they’ll push anyone without some kind of talent, this is the same company that reportedly, according to Luna Vachon, told Sable she didn’t have to take bumps.
The most talented person should get a spot regardless, and we’re sure the WWE works along those lines as well.
