As 2021 comes to a close, WWE has decided to release a long awaited list. Their personal top ten matches from the past year. WWE has had some amazing matches over the past twelve months, but which did they decide were the cream of the crop? Let’s find out.

    Breaking Down The Top 10

In reality, WWE released their Top 25 of the year, but the Top 10 are what truly matter. The full list can be viewed here, and includes matches like Lashley vs. McIntyre in Hell in a Cell, Edge vs. Reigns, and WALTER vs. Ciampa. However, none of these matches were worthy of the top ten.

Coming in at Number Ten was Bad Bunny & Damian Priest vs. The Miz & John Morrison from Night One of WrestleMania. This was one of the biggest surprises of the year, with Bad Bunny really winning fans over with his amazing performance. Number nine would be Big E vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns from the September 20th episode of Monday Night RAW. Three of WWE’s heaviest hitters duking it out gives the only TV match in the top ten.

The men’s WarGames match from NXT: Wargames would get the number eight spot. This match helped to prove just how talented the new crop of talent in NXT 2.0 are, and was the final showing of Johnny Gargano in WWE as he fought valiantly alongside team Black & Gold. Rhea Ripley & Charlotte Flair from Money in The Back took number seven, which was the match that saw them shut up an irate crowd with some incredible wrestling.

Number six would comes with Roman Reigns vs. John Cena from Summerslam, which was an epic encounter that got the proper shine that these two megastars deserved. Their first match at No Mercy years back wasn’t enough, but this one had fans satisfied.

Edge vs. Seth Rollins Takes Match Of The Year

Coming in at Number Five was the brutal brawl between Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair from Survivor Series. Rumors of real animosity blended reality and fiction, as they gave their best match since Evolution. Number four was the absolute classic that was Ilja Dragunov & WALTER from NXT Takeover: 36, which is my personal Match of the Year regardless of promotion. Seeing this one represented in the top five shows hope for these two in the company.

The main event of Wrestlemania Night Two, which saw Edge, Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns have one of the most chaotic main events in the history of Wrestlemania came in at number three. Meanwhile Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks took the number two spot, the highest ranked female match on the list.

This left just the number one spot, which went to the perfect Hell in a Cell match between Edge & Seth Rollins from Crown Jewel. For the first time in years, the Hell in a Cell match was used to end a fitting feud, and Edge proved once again he might be the master of the match type. Their match at Summerslam just missed the top ten, coming in at twelve – showing that Edge vs. Rollins was the feud of the year.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
