Last night, we had a fantastic main event to cap off NXT 2.0. In his first singles match in NXT history, AJ Styles took the fight to the upstart Grayson Waller. It was not as easy a victory as folks assumed it would be, but Styles did come out on top. Following the match, LA Knight would also get some blows in on Waller – revenge for a beatdown a few weeks prior. This also came with Styles & Knight hugging it out, leading many to believe this could be a sign towards the future.
AJ Styles & LA Knight Don’t Have Much In Common
Right now, both AJ Styles & LA Knight are rather directionless in WWE. Styles has ended his partnership with Omos, and lost the following singles match. Knight meanwhile has been spinning his wheels since being part of the Black & Gold team at WarGames.
Despite seeming like old friends and both having history in Impact Wrestling, there isn’t really any crossover when it comes to the careers of Knight & Styles. Styles left Impact in 2014, and Knight joined up as Eli Drake around 2015.
WWE Needs Tag Teams On The Main Roster
All the same, they compliment each other well – and WWE has made successful tag teams from less. Knight is overdue for leaving NXT behind, and is especially out of place in the landscape of NXT 2.0. Many felt he would leave the brand to be part of the Royal Rumble, but it would be just as likely that he shows up on Monday Night RAW as the new tag team partner of Styles.
Right now, WWE is lacking in tag teams on Monday Night RAW. RKBro are expected to split soon now that they have lost the RAW Tag Team Championships, AJ Styles & Omos are obviously done, and what seemed like a promising tag team between Kevin Owens & Seth Rollins is dead with Rollins now on Smackdown. Adding in two veterans to team up might make Knight & Styles just seem like a face version of Ziggler & Roode – but there would be worse uses of their talents.
