Right now in AEW, we’re on the slow path to a big first time singles match. Eddie Kingston has been on a collision path with Chris Jericho, ever since he pointed out how his pals Santana & Ortiz have been held back from gold in AEW due to fighting Chris Jericho’s battles for him, instead of focusing on themselves. This has set in motion a match that Jericho has been wanting since Kingston showed up in AEW.
Chris Jericho Views Eddie Kingston As A Dream Opponent Due To His Hard Hitting Style And Amazing Promos
While speaking on the Wrestling with Freddie podcast with former WWE writer and Fred from the live action Scooby Doo movies, Freddie Prinze Jr. – Jericho would speak about dream matches in AEW.
“There are two that I would take. One that I am looking forward to now that will happen is the story we’re building with Eddie Kingston in AEW. That’s a guy from day one, the moment he walked in, I said ‘that’s a superstar, he’s gonna be a huge babyface. I like his style it’s very hard-hitting.He doesn’t look like a typical wrestler, he just looks like a tough guy at the bar, but his promos are above and beyond.
That’s why I kind of pick and choose who I’m going to be working with, and also it has to fit in with plans that Tony Khan has and what the guys have. But the Eddie one was really something cool to me. I also deal in long-term stories, so nothing is set in stone, but that is one I’m really looking forward to that will happen.”
Needs To Wait Until Kingston Is Healthy Again
This will need to wait until Kingston is cleared to return to the ring however. During the AEW Dark tapings around Battle of The Belts – Kingston suffered an injury after a stiff kick during his match with Joey Janela. He’s expected to return to the ring soon, but could be back on TV sooner for some promos alongside Jericho, Santana & Ortiz.
This feud has the potential to finally end The Inner Circle, if Kingston convinces Santana & Ortiz to split off from Chris Jericho. Jericho wanted the faction to split on good terms after their feud with The Pinnacle, but AEW kept it around for the feud with American Top Team.
