We’re officially on the road to Wrestlemania now that the Royal Rumble is in the rear-view window. Bobby Lashley is once again the WWE Champion – after defeating Brock Lesnar with the aid of Roman Reigns. However, this doesn’t mean he will make it to Wrestlemania with the WWE Championship around his waist – as he first needs to make it through the Elimination Chamber first.
Bobby Lashley Will Defend The WWE Championship Elimination Chamber
This was made official by WWE on Twitter, likely ahead of some qualifying matches on the coming episode on Monday Night RAW. There isn’t much time between now and the next PPV, which will take place in Saudi Arabia on February 19th. WWE will have to rush the build, but thankfully Elimination Chamber matches are easy to build.
There are some names expected to be in the field. Matt Riddle, Randy Orton, & Kevin Owens are some of the biggest on Monday Night RAW. Seth Rollins is expected to face Roman Reigns in a rematch at Elimination Chamber – after the vicious attack following their match at Royal Rumble. Other possible names for this match include Austin Theory, Dolph Ziggler, and Damien Priest.
Not His First Time In The Elimination Chamber
This will not be the first time that Lashley has entered the Elimination Chamber, but that doesn’t help his odds. His first time was in the now infamous Extreme Elimination Chamber from 2006. It was the main event of December to Dismember, one of the worst performing PPV’s in WWE history – and the only PPV to come from the revival of the ECW brand.
On that night, Lashley won the ECW Championship from The Big Show, outlasting CM Punk, Hardcore Holly, Rob Van Dam and Test as well. It was not the worst match of the night, but was a let down considering the talent involved and the branding of it being an “Extreme” variant of the match.
