There are few people as polarizing to the pro wrestling fanbase as Jim Cornette. He’s either a love him or hate him type of guy because he’s honest and doesn’t hold any punches and purposely antagonizes people at times among other things.
So, he’s probably going to step on some toes, or confuse those that hate him, by saying that he believes Austin Theory is better than John Cena was at 24 years old.
The topic came up on his latest podcast where he compared them by breaking down the various qualities they had.
Tale of the tape
What really made this interesting is how Cornette made sure to point out his comparison was both of them at 24 years old and not just a random comparison for clicks.
Special thanks to wrestletalk.com and @the_wrestling_news2 for the following transcription.
“John Cena’s only advantage over Austin Theory at this point in both of their careers was John Cena was a better promo.
“I saw them both at the same age at the same time – I’m sure John Cena as a human being was probably more mature and developed than Austin Theory, because he was that way; he was a f**king mature responsible person even then.
“I personally believe John Cena’s only advantage over Austin Theory at this point in both of their careers is that John Cena had better promo skills but Austin Theory is better at everything else at this stage of the game than John Cena was, and I saw both of them.”
I have to admit I was mixed on Theory the last couple of weeks but he’s been in some awesome matches lately, especially against AJ Styles, and it’s great to see the potential he has.
John Cena was a near hit out of the box when he challenged Kurt Angle and the WWE machine took over from there.
The sky’s the limit
It’s going to be pretty cool to see how they compare in a few more years. Austin had loads of talent and he’s still developing, just like anyone would expect.
What gives Austin a leg up is Vince McMahon is with him on camera just about every week to give him pointers to being a heel as only the Mr. McMahon character can do.
It can be argued that Vince sees the potential and is trying to help Austin out as much as he can and what better way to do that than at the hand or one of the greatest heels in history?
