The WWE has had more than a handful of goofs and mismanagement moments in the last year, and few are on the level of Karrion Kross’ time on Raw.
After a year of being built up as an unbeatable force in NXT that had fans exited, he had his first match cut from 10 minutes to a couple, then lost it to totally undermine all of the momentum he had from NXT.
Instead of being a world beater and dominate force, he became a cheap version of his NXT self to the point fans chanted Jeff Hardy’s name so loud over his NXT entrance the following week the WWE had to reshoot it for TV.
It was bizarre how badly Kross was handled on the main brands, and it’s something he talked about on Oral Session with Renee Paquette.
Disappointment
“I was trying to make sure that I didn’t come off salty about anything but yeah, I’m disappointed. But at the same time, I try to keep stuff in perspective about the experience I had, people I met and got to work with, the life I was afforded by working there, but at the same time, I can’t bullshit people and pretend like the last couple months of my career there weren’t really bizarre.
“I was relieved because this was not the best version of myself as a performer and my hands were tired. That’s kind of part of the deal. I didn’t really have any sort of sympathy for myself and I wasn’t bitter about the whole thing. I was just disappointed and I was like, ‘I would love to make this work,’ but it was not working. I was ready to move on. I don’t mean that to sound like an a–hole, I was grateful.”
This sentiment is shared by his fans that followed him to the WWE from Impact Wrestling as well as the new ones he made.
Nothing about the way he was handled on Raw made sense, especially when the storyline reportedly called for him to become unbalanced and regularly lose until Scarlett was reunited with him and righted the ship.
It was a twist that didn’t need to be done and sounds more like someone tried to be clever and were too clever. As wrestling fans we want to see our favorites in feuds with compelling storylines.
Having someone debut with a loss and as a shadow of themselves while waiting is hard to do and WWE Creative failed him and the fans big time.
