We’re on our way to the return of Ring of Honor. Taking the first three months of 2022 off to restructure their business was a bold move, but one that seems to be paying off. Fans are no longer worried about the company being dead, as tickets will soon go on sale for the event on April 1st. They have a venue, and now are starting to build a strong card – which always starts with a big main event.
Bandido vs. Jonathan Gresham Is Finally Coming
It could only ever be one match in the main event – and that’s the original main event of Final Battle 2021. While the show ended with an epic match between Jonathan Gresham & Jay Lethal, which saw Gresham claim the original ROH World Championship? It was supposed to be Bandido defending the ROH World Championship against Gresham. Bandido would fall to COVID-19 just ahead of the show, leading to AEW lending Jay Lethal to ROH to pull off a big main event.
Now, at Supercard of Honor on April 1st – we will finally see this match. Making things more interesting is that it will be a unification match, as both Bandido & Gresham have been defending their respective championships. Gresham is carrying the old title, while Bandido carries the more modern title. While Bandido missing Final Battle was a hard blow to the company, it now pays off with a bigger main event for a show that might be a harder sell.
Ring of Honor Will Need To Build A Strong Card
When it comes to this show, it will be a do or die moment for Ring of Honor. This is going to be their first show in months, with no TV to promote or build up matches. It’s their return to a more indie wrestling style of show, where they won’t be working with contracts any longer.
Right now, there is a massive market of free agents in professional wrestling, with a lot of former ROH contracted talents still floating around. Some who came up through the ROH Dojo will likely show up for this show, with the likes of Dak Draper & Brian Johnson expected. Anyone could show up on this show, which is a very exciting prospect.
