Right now, we’re coming to an interesting spot in AEW’s short history. Their early contracts are coming to an end. We’ve already seen some like Big Swole leave the company, The Young Bucks & Scorpio Sky extend their deals, and others such as Joey Janela express anxiety about the end dates of their AEW deals. Some year one talents won’t be sticking around, and one such name could be Peter Avalon. Brought in early as a jobber, Avalon has become a fan favorite wrestler since joining AEW – and has news to share this coming Monday.
Peter Avalon Has Shined In The Undercard Of AEW Since 2019
The AEW career of Peter Avalon has been an interesting one. He was never set to be a top star in the company, coming in with a character of a Librarian… a gimmick he had to share with Leva Bates. In 2020 would even feud and team with Brandon Cutler, with a series of matches between the zero win pair being highlights of AEW Dark. Leva Bates served as their manager as a tag team, but split from Avalon after the team shattered.
Following this, he’d bring in Ryan Nemeth, Cezar Bononi & JD Drake to form The Wingmen – the lowest ranked AEW faction in rankings, but a group that is always entertaining. Avalon has remained one of the most popular undercard wrestlers AEW has, and it’d be a shame to see him leave the company. This has fans hoping that his announcement is in relation to Avalon signing a new deal with AEW.
AEW Can’t Keep Everyone Hired Forever
If Avalon sticks around, it will show that AEW has been paying attention to the great work he’s done in making shows like Dark feel special. You can almost compare Avalon to Heath Slater during his time in WWE. No matter what you give Avalon, he finds a way to make it work. Workers like that are the foundation of professional wrestling, and Avalon is an important – if small, part of AEW.
All the same, they can’t keep everyone on the roster forever. Talent will come and go in AEW, and atleast they always ensure deals go for their set amount of time – rather than release people halfway through their deals. Names like Avalon, Kip Sabain, Private Party, and more could be on their way out – but all added to the early years of AEW.
