For a while now, WWE Network has been the place to catch the events of various UK indies. Thanks to partnerships with Progress Wrestling, ICW, and WXW – fans have a chance to watch some of the UK’s best wrestlers in action. This continues even with Progress Wrestling now being under new management – but their recent show had a match cut from the broadcast on WWE Network. It was because it contained an AEW contracted talent.
WWE Edits Anthony Ogogo’s Match Out Of PROGRESS Chapter 127: And The Word Was PROGRESS…
At the latest Progress Wrestling event, we would see AEW’s Anthony Ogogo make his debut for the company. He would defeat Hari Singh in a match that went around six minutes, a sign of things to come from Ogogo. However, if you’re watching this event through WWE Network – this match is completely missing from the broadcast. You can still catch the match by watching through Demand Progress.
This instantly stunts the potential progress of Ogogo in Progress Wrestling. WWE will likely cut any match or segment of Ogogo in the promotion, which will mean Progress won’t want to put him into major matches, feuds, or tournaments. Ogogo could have been built up as a challenger for current champion Cara Noir, but when a good chunk of potential viewers will miss any matches or moments – that makes things very tricky.
A Bonus Match For Dedicated Fans Of Progress Wrestling
For the moment, Progress has called the match a “bonus” for their Demand Progress streaming service. A fun treat for the hardcore fans both watching from home, or in the arena. This is what we can expect for any match involving any AEW talent who gets booked for Progress Wrestling.
Potentially this could even affect talent from Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, or any major company that isn’t WWE. It goes against what made Progress so great it in its prime, and another example of them being weakened due to having a link to WWE. This is what will prevent Progress from reaching the hype of a company like GCW in 2022.
Do you think this will have any impact on Progress Wrestling booking talents from any major company outside of WWE? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
