It’s time for the 2022 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic to begin. We have a smaller field this year, only eight teams in the running. The Creed Brothers have not been a duo to look past since they came to NXT 2.0. Both men have some amateur wrestling skills that they are showing every time they hit the ring. Now, they have the chance to win the 2022 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and their tournament starts with some heavy hitters with Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen.
Starting The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic In Hard Hitting Fashion
The team of common men would be a team Dusty Rhodes would have loved, and they’d come into this match with the same plan as always – just punch some faces. Brutus would shoot for a takedown on Jensen, and drove him down to the mat. Jensen got to the ropes, and the second takedown was blocked with a knee to the face.
Brutus was rocked, and a dropkick sent him into the corner. Briggs tagged in and hit a big double powerslam. Julius would get a tag and took a back elbow before ending up in the wrong corner. Jensen would tag in and punch him in the face before applying the side headlock. Brutus would get the tag and send Jensen over the top rope with a belly to belly suplex.
Jensen took a knee to the jaw from Juilius, before Brutus was thrown onto him. Brutus was bleeding from the mouth, but as determined as ever to do some damage. He’d go head to head with Briggs and take a big boot and chokeslam for a two count. On the outside, Jensen was taken out and Briggs was left alone to a combo powerbomb and sliding lariat. Creed Brothers advance to the semi-finals.
Dante Chen Is Back In NXT, And More Determined Than Ever
Dante Chen was able to make his debut early in the history of NXT 2.0, only to be sidelined by a leg injury. He was motivated by his father to get back up and represent Singapore – with his father passing away two months ago, Chen is more motivated than ever before to succeed. His father is looking down on him as he returns to NXT – and failure is not an option.
With an opponent of Guru Raaj, Chen would hit the ring and look like a star in the process. The right leg had a knee brace, and that’s just a target. However, Raaj instead went high – nailing a dropkick instead. Chen would send Raaj to the outside, and nailed a clean dive to the outside.
This match would be stopped by Duke Hudson rushing in and kicking Chen in the face. A powerbomb in the ring sent a clear message. This is the first we’ve seen of Hudson since he lost his hair to Cameron Grimes – and he’s as cheerful as ever.
Will Duke Hudson get payback for this attack? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
