Andrade El Idolo has really failed to make the expected impact in AEW, but tonight had a chance to turn that all the way around. Finally, he would get a chance to earn some gold – taking on Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship. Having screwed Darby Allin out of the belt, and having a match set for Revolution against Sting, Darby Allin & Sammy Guevara – tonight is just when he hoped to take the TNT Championship from Guevara. However, we all know to never count Guevara out – especially when gold is on the line.
Andrade El Idolo Hits Hard And Fast
This one kicked off fast with both men throwing some heavy strikes. The overhand chop from Andrade would nearly set up the El Idolo – but Guevara countered out and looked to hit the GTH. Andrade offered a handshake, but Guevara flipped him off before hitting the Corkscrew Dropkick.
Guevara would hit the Spanish Fly – only getting a one count. Andrade would trade blows with Guevara in the corner before shoving Guevara to the outside as he looked for the double springboard cutter. A snap suplex on the ramp would follow – before Andrade pulled Guevara into the ring.
Three Amigos would be set in the ring, but Guevara blocked the third suplex into an inside cradle. Andrade stayed in the fight, and Guevara hit the jumping knee strike and looked for the GTH once again. Guevara would see Andrade slip free, before heading to the outside – and just dove into Andrade.
Sammy Guevara Uses The Miscommunication In The AHFO To Get The Win
Back in the ring, 450 Splash would miss and Andrade managed to nail the running big boot. Guevara was drooping in the ropes, and Andrade launched himself into a DDT onto the apron. Andrade went to the top rope, and Guevara would catch him with the super Spanish Fly.
Both men would have a rough time reaching their feet – with Andrade getting up first. Andrade would expose a turnbuckle – running a distraction for Matt Hardy to remove another. Guevara ran into a hip toss, but was able to avoid the Double Knee Strike in the corner.
GTH was blocked, but Andrade got a roll up for a two count. He’d avoid hitting that exposed corner, but took the superkick to the jaw. Guevara took far too long going to the top rope, and Andrade was able to easily hit a strike. Andrade wanted Super El Idolo – but Guevara tripped Andrade up and he’d hit the steel face first. Double springboard cutter was a formality – and Guevara remains TNT Champion.
After the match, the AHFO tried to attack Guevara – but Sting & Darby Allin made the save.
