When it comes to the roster of AEW, Tony Khan has done a fine job when it comes to balancing up and coming talent with legacy acts. It’s a hard thing to get right, as shown by the failings of Impact Wrestling in the past, but when done right you provide a perfect ecosystem for rising stars to learn. However, one legacy talent in Billy Gunn doesn’t think the rising stars of AEW use the legends on hand enough.
Billy Gunn Doesn’t Feel Young Talent Are Taking Full Advantage Of The Legends In AEW
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Billy Gunn would be asked about the young talents of AEW – which includes his sons, Austin & Colton Gunn. He personally feels they should be taking better advantage of the legends backstage and their knowledge. The quote is as follows.
“I think they could do a better job of it. Honestly, that’s one of the things, we have some of the….Arn, Dean, Tully, Jerry, you have some of the greatest talent minds that are in the business and I feel they don’t take full advantage of it. I feel they need to take more advantage of it. Sometimes, I think they are in their own head and, not that they know it all, but they kind of don’t want someone to tell them different from what their game plan is. I feel like it needs to be more and that they don’t take full advantage of what they have in front of them.”
If there’s any industry where you’re never done learning, it’s professional wrestling. The tastes of fans are always changing, so being able to know what worked in the past won’t always help – but learning from the likes of Jerry Lynn, Jake Roberts, Arn Anderson, Sting, or Christian Cage is not going to hurt your chances of putting on an incredible performance.
AEW has legends from just about every possible era on hand in their locker room, and there’s truly someone to reach out to for advice on any style. In this way, it’s hard to deny the truth in the words of Billy Gunn in this case – especially for those just starting out, but also for those who have years of experience under their belt.
