The fallout from the Royal Rumble disaster is continuing as it’s been reported that the WWE “let go” of Shane McMahon.
The news broke through Ringside News and was confirmed by Fightful Select and Dave Meltzer about Shane being quietly let go.
Those same reports say that Vince wants the term “let go” used instead of being fired.
This is a strange twist we weren’t expecting, and is Shane was anyone else it wouldn’t be a shock given how bad the pay-per-view was.
But Shane’s a McMahon, so this means Vince allegedly fired his son.
Scrapping Shane-O-Mac
It’s been reported that Shane caused a stir backstage at the Rumble and brought all sorts of heat on himself as the head writer and producer for it.
There have been reports that he wanted Seth Rollins in the Rumble in double duty, but no clear reason why he was pulled, though it’s believed it had to do with Roman Reigns’ attack on him being more believable.
Shane was also scheduled for a match at Elimination Chamber and to feud with Rollins at WrestleMania, but all of that’s been removed from the plans and the company’s going in a different direction.
There are also rumors involving Shane and Bobby Lashley feuding.
All of this is coming not just from the fact the Rumble is arguably the WWE’s worst PPV in history, but from reported actions by Shane backstage.
According to reports, he tried to book the Rumble match around him and attempted to bury producer Jamie Noble.
What’s next?
Shane being fired isn’t the first time he was at odds with Vince and left the company, except the other times it seemed the parting was more on Shane’s part than not.
There seems to be a lot of other things going on behind the scenes than anyone’s letting on about, especially given how many chances Vince has given various people over the years.
For him to fire his son is out of the blue since Triple H is considered untouchable due to being part of the family by the fans, and that may be part of the issue.
From a fan’s point of view, Shane comes and goes but he’s still a McMahon and we don’t expect Vince to ever fire him. But from a business standpoint and with everything reportedly surrounding the Rumble and other reports, it makes sense.
In the end, we may never know what really happened, but this does open plenty of doors for possibilities.
