This is one of the wilder rumors going around, but given his recent history as an Executive Vice President with AEW, it makes sense that Cody could see a similar role for himself in the WWE.
With the WWE ratings the lowest they’ve been in years and with little upswing of note, it’s safe to say the WWE needs an infusion of new ideas.
The problem is Vince McMahon is reportedly happy with the current product since he’s been making a good living off of television and streaming deals, so he may not feel he has to change.
Cody’s the key
On the other hand, we know that despite their claims otherwise, WWE pays attention to AEW. The most obvious example if Roman Reigns’ needle mover shirt.
So there is every chance that Cody could get in Vince’s ear and offer him some ideas and storylines similar to what they’ve run in AEW as a way to get a office role in the WWE.
He could even work up and take over for Bruce Prichard as Executive Producer on one of the main brand shows, though that would be a tall him to climb since Prichard is a Vince guy.
That doesn’t mean it won’t happen, and given Cody’s family line the respect Vince has for Dusty Rhodes and everything he did could give Cody another decisive edge.
But there’s another reason Cody could get a chance to prove himself, and it’s not because he can still work in the ring.
He knows AEW’s inner workings
During the Monday Night Wars, WWE and WCW traded personnel and did their best to find out what the other was doing and do it better.
A perfect example was WCW releasing the results of WWE’s pretaped Raw episode.
In this case, Cody knows how everyone in AEW thinks and he has contacts with others there and elsewhere that could lead to him knowing what prospects AEW may be looking at and the WWE could beat them to the punch.
It’s underhanded, but it’s entirely possible if Cody’s making the move due to wanting more power or even a say in wrestling production.
Since it’s been reported that he’s already been in contact with the WWE, there’s every reason to think it could happen sooner rather than later.
If he does join WWE as a producer, him being able to work at a high level will give WWE the option of bringing back the general manager or sheriff role, and that will allow Cody to embrace his heel side and ratchet the drama up quite a bit.
It’d be one step closer to emulating Triple H, and Cody could offer Vince a fresh look and possible even maneuver himself into running NXT in Shawn Michaels’ place.
It’s farfetched, but could it be a possibility?
