Meghan Markle failed to understand the importance of being ‘British’ in the Royal family, which explains why she did not adjust.
Meghan Markle Failed To Understand The Importance Of Being ‘British’ During Her Time In The Royal Family
That is according to Marketing Professor Cele Otnes. It is no secret that Meghan entered into a life that was completely different to what she had been used to. Prior to marrying Prince Harry, she was not exactly the most celebrated of actresses.
Aside from her role on ‘Suits’ she was not known to many fans. And given that the Royal family has such a rich history, coupled with the fact that there is always media scrutiny focused on them, Meghan failed to factor in those things.
In an interview with the Express, Cele said: “The UK is an extremely significant society. And I don’t think Meghan cared about that, not being British.
“Think about the difference between Kate being British, and how she must understand that heritage.” In Meghan’s defence, she was in the Royal family for three years.
And during the course of this process, she had taken steps to fit in. This included reports that her accent had changed, as a way to mimic how the Royals speak. Not only that, she did leave her country and career which showed an element of sacrifice.
Nevertheless, by Meghan’s own admission, she recognised that it was hard to be in the Royal family which was shown when she got married.
During her highly-publicised Oprah Winfrey interview, she revealed: “It was like having an out-of-body experience I was very present for.
“I think we were both really aware, even in advance of that, this wasn’t our day, this was the day that was planned for the world.”
If Meghan failed to adopt into the Royal family, then there is a similar danger that Harry may not be able to do so outside of it.
Although he does have children now, which makes it more of a priority to have stability, there is no denying that he grew up in the institution for most of his life. And that is bound to have an impact on his adjustment to life outside of the Royals.
