There is a lot of talent who can call themselves free agents right now in professional wrestling. WWE alone released countless names in 2021, putting names like Shane Strickland and Keith Lee on the free agent market, and Ring of Honor moving away from contract has names like Jonathan Gresham & Bandido as free agents. However, one more name will soon join the mix – as Micheal Elgin will soon be a free agent as well.
A Free Agent As Of April 15th, 2022
This was announced by Elgin himself on Twitter, who said the following.
“April 15/2022 I’m a free agent.”
It will be hard for Elgin to stand out, and harder to call him a hot free agent however. His last televised match was back in May of 2020, and last match in general was in February of 2021. Lack of action in the ring won’t help his odds, and Elgin might need to get some matches on the indies first, and get his name back in the ears of promoters.
Micheal Elgin Was Put On The Shelf After Speaking Out Movement
This is not a name that has been in the spotlight for a very long time now. Elgin was a name involved in the Speaking Out movement, which led to Impact Wrestling putting him on the bench. However, he was never formally released from his contract – with Impact apparently having kept Elgin on the payroll for two years without using him on TV.
Prior to being pulled from TV, Elgin was set to be one of the main event players in Impact Wrestling – and that was a good fit. His in-ring skills are undeniable, with great performances against Eddie Edwards still fresh in some fans minds, as well as a great run in NJPW which saw him claim the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Kenny Omega in 2016. His skills are hard to deny, but attitude issues and lingering heat from Speaking Out are potential pitfalls.
