We’re in the midst of a celebration within New Japan Pro Wrestling. They’ve been around for 50 years, and are set for their 50th Anniversary Event on March 1! Instead of running a main event with the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion taking on the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, we have some returning legends in the main event – which is just the first bit of news on this huge event.
Two Legends With Main Event NJPW 50th Anniversary Event
The main event of this show sees the NJPW Dream Team of Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi teaming with ‘The Original Dragon’ Tatsumi Fujinami. This legend was in the NJPW Ranbo at Wrestle Kingdom, and despite being 68 years old, was able to impress fans.
Now he’s back to help fight Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr and a fellow legend in Yoshiaki Fujiwara. This is a once in a lifetime kind of match, and one that NJPW fans will be sure to enjoy. It’s perfect for a 50th Anniversary show, as Fujiwaru and Fujinami have been around in NJPW for most of their careers.
Great Bash Heel Is Back
While this main event is huge, there is more on this show that is going to be interesting. We have a champion vs. champion tag team clash, as IWGP Tag Team Champions Bishamon (YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto) take on IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Six or Nine (Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi). This is a babyface vs. babyface clash, and both teams should give a great fight.
Great Bash Heel is mostly known to be the tag team of Tomoaki Honma and Togi Makabe – but was once one of the best factions in NJPW. On this show, they are back as Toru Yano & Tomohiro Ishii join up, and Shiro Koshinaka returns to NJPW for the first time since 2016. They will take on the modern example of the ‘Violent Anti-Heroes’ faction, as they take on Los Ingobernables De Japon.
Also announced is the return of Kota Ibushi, who has been revealed as an entrant in the New Japan Cup. Are you excited for the NJPW 50th Anniversary event? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
