According to reports, Queen Elizabeth had a meeting with Major General Eldon Millar (the new incoming Defence Services Secretary) and the former one, Rear Admiral James Macleod.
And what should have been a routine state visit to discuss defense and security, turned out to be anything but that.
The monarch had been looking to divert attention away from the Royal family now that Prince Andrew’s sexual assault case had been settled.
While she did manage to achieve this, it was sadly done in a worrying manner, as the focus has now turned to her ailing health. During the appearance, it is claimed that the Queen struggled to move when asked about her wellbeing.
She said: “Well, as you can see, I can’t move.” This is worrying news in light of the prior optimism that had emerged at the beginning of 2022.
The Queen had made her first major appearance in the public eye when she attended with several charities in a meet and greet session. In the video here, she was seen in very good spirits. But now it seems that this moment of positivity has been short lived.
Not only that, but given that the Royal family is facing a crisis in popularity, with polls suggesting that their popularity is declining, the last thing that the Royal family needs is the Head of State to become ill.
After all, it is no secret that the next in line to the throne, Prince Charles, is not exactly a popular figure. And this was the feeling that was being echoed on social media.
A significant proportion of people felt that the monarch needed the support of everyone around her in order to ensure that her wellbeing was looked after. One person wrote: “Can someone just give her a great big hug xx.”
There is going to be a time when the Queen is no longer around. And with that inevitability on the horizon, the best thing that the Royal family can do is take steps to ensure that there is a smooth transition once she is no longer here.
