When the Ring of Honor Hall Of Fame was announced earlier this year, fans had a good idea on who to expect for the inaugural class. While ROH has opened it’s doors to many legends, there are some names who are simply iconic to the company and it’s twenty year history. Already, The Briscoes & Bryan Danielson have been confirmed to enter the ROH Hall of Fame – but the latest entrant is perhaps the biggest star of ROH’s early days, Samoa Joe.
The Greatest Ring of Honor Champion Of All Time
Simply put, when you mention ‘Ring of Honor Champion’, there is a chance that Samoa Joe is the face that will pop into the heads of many fans. While he only had one reign as champion, his 645 days as champion are the stuff of legends. His reign would most notably feature him going to time limit draws twice with CM Punk. These were the matches that put ROH on the map, and still hold up to this day. Over his reign, he managed 30 defences against the likes Homicide, Rocky Romero, Jay Briscoe, Chris Hero and Bryan Danielson.
Even outside of his reign as ROH World Champion, Samoa Joe also has the classic against Kenta Kobashi to prop up his run in Ring of Honor. This match was rated five stars, and you’d be hard pressed to find someone who could argue with that. The action of that match even left commentary so speechless that they sat back and watched the action happen like everyone else. Instead, they let the action speak for itself.
Samoa Joe Is Simply A Legend
At the end of the day, Samoa Joe is just one of those wrestlers who is a legend. From ROH to Impact Wrestling to WWE, everywhere he’s went – he’s left a path of destruction in his wake, claiming gold and proving his skills. The past few years might have been quiet for Samoa Joe, with WWE only clearing him for one match inbetween two releases, but Joe has promised to return to the ring soon.
