It appears the various reports that Shane McMahon was released from the WWE were premature, or the two parties agreed on a different contract and he’s working behind the scenes.
Whatever’s the case, fans hoping for Shane to start his own promotion or buy ROH or GCW may have to wait a little longer as it appears he’s working on gaining new partnerships with the WWE.
The WWE has never been shy about reaching out to other sports or entertainment for various deals, including star crossovers for various events and tv appearances, so it’s not surprising that Shane would be involved in a deal.
What is surprising is that it’s Shane since we don’t hear a lot about him making those arrangements, but that could simply be because it happens behind closed door.
So grateful for a night out with brothers Shane McMahon (son of WWE Vince) and Doug Cifu (co-owner of Florida Panthers). Excited for a partnership between WWE and rugby. @WWE @SharksRugby @FlaPanthersBlog @Dougielarge @shanemcmahon pic.twitter.com/WyV2qLDlmb

Drawing from Rugby
It looks like the WWE may be eyeing either getting into the rugby business or using some of their stars on their shows.
We assume it’s for overseas promotions due to rugby not being the most popular sport in the US, but it is popular enough for Vince McMahon use in some capacity here, so it wouldn’t surprise us.
This past Wednesday, Marco Mascotti, owner of the South African rugby team Sharks, shared a picture of himself with Shane McMahon and Doug Cifu, co-owner of the Florida Panthers of the NHL.

On the surface, it looks like Shane’s still in Vince’s good graces enough to be working for him, but could this be something to placate Shane after the reported drama backstage at the Royal Rumble?
Clean slate?
It’s possible everything we’ve heard about backstage at the Rumble was wrong and things in the company are moving along like they always are.
While Shane may have stirred up some problems backstage if the reports are true, it could’ve been his way of injecting some life into a product that’s been limping along for a couple of years now.
Or he was doing what he was told, then became a public “scapegoat” to get people talking about the WWE.
There are so many things at work that we can only speculate at, and this is another one of those. In the end, only Vince and Shane really know what’s happening, but it does look like Shane’s still with the WWE.
