Following Shane McMahon’s release this past week, many, including us, speculated about the possibility of Shane going to AEW and shake things up.
It appears the WWE had similar thoughts for other reasons as Wade Keller on PWTorch.com talked about what happened at the Royal Rumble and what caused Shane’s release.
Arrogance personified
According to Keller, Shane’s ego was out of control at the Royal Rumble and he was confrontational with producers as he allegedly attempted to make himself the centerpiece for that and the Elimination chamber.
Special thanks to Wrestlingrepublic.com for the transcript.
“People in WWE are letting me know that someone should warn Tony Khan what he’s in for if he brings Shane in, because the sense of entitlement, and I don’t know if ego is the right word, that Shane would bring along with him in a company that isn’t WWE would probably be amplified compared to how he was acting on Saturday, which was just basically out of control.”
This is a curious perspective, especially give how Vince doesn’t like giving up control. Of course, Shane would’ve had to convince Vince about what he wanted to do, and that would explain the rewrites reportedly happening the day of the event.
No news yet
So far, there hasn’t been a peep outside of fans on social media, but given reports that Shane was under a talent contract he probably has a 90 day non-compete clause.
Even if he’s not considered talent, it’s hard to imagine him not having some type of clause in place.
As for Shane’s recent antics, maybe he did them so he would be fired? It’s extreme but we only know what’s been said and that’s far from everything that happened behind the scenes.
We have to admit, signing Shane could be worth the risk as it’d help both companies in some way. It’s definitely a move Eric Bischoff would’ve done, so we’ll see how much of a riverboat gambler Tony Kahn is.
There’s every chance that things could follow another path and Shane does his own thing. There have been reports that he’s co-owner of a marijuana farm in California, so that may take up the bulk of his time.
We’re sure we haven’t seen the last of Shane in the WWE or elsewhere, and until then we’ll have plenty of fun speculating where he’ll go and when will he return.
