Recently, WWE ran a disaster of a PPV with the Royal Rumble. Normally one of the top shows in the WWE calendar, the show was underwhelming and full of messy booking- and was capped off with one of the weakest Royal Rumble matches in memory. Most of the blame for that match was placed on Shane McMahon, who had tried to make the match be about himself. This led to Shane being fired from WWE – and with that came speculation on if he’d join the ranks of AEW.
Tony Khan Would Accept A Chance To Speak With Shane McMahon
While recently speaking with Sports Illustrated, Tony Khan would speak about his thoughts on the chance of Shane McMahon joining the AEW roster. At the end of the day, Khan wouldn’t turn down a chance to talk with Shane – stating the following.
“I’d certainly take the call. I’m sure he’d be an interesting person to talk to about wrestling. I’m not sure exactly if he would be a fit. I have not heard from him, and I don’t expect to hear from him, but in this business, you never know.”
Unlikely, But Not Impossible
This positions Shane McMahon as unlikely to join AEW, but doesn’t completely rule out the possibility. It was a well worded statement by Khan, as truly you never know what could happen in the professional wrestling industry. Obviously any McMahon joining AEW would be massive news.
It’s the family that built the WWE into the empire that it is today, and will lead WWE for years to come. Even though Shane has often been the black sheep of the family, it’d still be a McMahon in AEW. Vince will never show up in AEW, and Stephanie is unlikely at best – meaning Shane would be the only one with a chance of showing up.
