Tom Brady’s retirement from the NFL ends an era of dominance that is seen in professional sports once a generation, and his run is one for the ages.
While it doesn’t seem like Brady’s retirement doesn’t affect the WWE, it will for one reason and that’s if Rob Gronkowski retires again and returns to the WWE.
To be fair, Gronk unretired, at least in part, to return and play with Brady, so will he follow his QB’s path and head back to the WWE?
At a crossroads
It’s going to be an interesting day if Gronk does return to the WWE to fulfill his boyhood dream and it’s going to leave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without two of their best players.
Crossroads are nothing new to Gronk and he walked away before, but maybe this time he’ll wait another season or two before walking away.
It’d make sense if he wants to make sure he’s really done this time before returning to the WWE and picking up where he left off.
His short time in the WWE was memorable as he won the 24/7 Championship from Mojo Rawley at WrestleMania 36 and later dropped it after returning to the NFL.
There’s every chance he’ll come back as the WWE loves to bring in big names to help gain relevancy in the main stream and get more people to tune in.
In this case, he’s coming off a Super Bowl win followed by a loss in the Conference finals that was also Brady’s final game.
Retirement means retired
With all of that being said, Gronk is in his early 30s and has taken plenty of physical abuse over the course of his NFL career and he might not want to put himself through even more punishment in a WWE ring.
He’s made his money and can retire or go into other endeavors that don’t require him putting his body on the line.
It’s going to be interesting to see what he chooses to do, and if he returns to the WWE he could work a few different angles that don’t require him to be in the ring like his last run.
There’s plenty of possibilities for him if he returns and this time his character could be a little more serious and less goofy or even more goofy. There’s plenty of room for the WWE to play with.
