CM Punk left a part of himself in the ring at AEW Revolution, but was able to defeat MJF. Tonight, he makes his return to AEW as he takes on Dax Harwood in singles action. Seeing as Harwood is part of The Pinnacle – MJF might not be willing to let Punk get away from him just yet, and could look to spoil the Dynamite return of Punk.
Dax Harwood Takes CM Punk To His Limits
Harwood would send Cash Wheeler to the back before the bell, choosing to face Punk alone tonight. Punk would force Harwood into the corner to get the breakup on the opening lockup, before slipping out of a headscissor. Harwood would have this arm hammer locked, but was able to use the corner to get the break – before an elbow to the head.
Punk would take a knee to the midsection, before a leg drop for a near fall. An elbow to the nose would make breathing hard for Punk, before a hard backbreaker. Gunn Club were front row, and drew the attention of Harwood – allowing Punk to nail some chops.
Harwood would be able to take Punk down before a diving headbutt from the top would miss. Punk would nail the leg lariat for a near fall, before the elbow drop on the top was interrupted. Superplex would follow, and Punk would get the worst of this move. Harwood would nail the diving headbutt this time – but only got a two count.
CM Punk Gets The Submission Victory
Harwood would look for a suplex, but Punk would shift his weight and forced both men to tumble to the floor. Cash Wheeler came to ringside to check on Dax, and would simply help motivate him back into the ring. Punk would follow him in with a crossbody off the top rope before applying the Anaconda Vice.
Harwood would slip free and look for sharpshooter before being kicked off into the corner. He’d roll back into Punk for a two count, before blocking the rising knee into a rebound powerbomb for a near fall. Punk would manage to nail the Rising Knee strike, before having the Go To Sleep blocked into a perfect Sharpshooter.
Harwood was unable to get the submission, and Punk would block into the Anaconda Vice – forcing the submission victory. A great showing from Dax Harwood, but after the bell, CM Punk would signal that maybe it’s time to get some gold around his waist. Hangman Page better be watching.
