Multiple endeavors
Cain was born and raised in North Carolina is widely regarded as one of the best heavyweight MMA fighters in history.
He has the added distinction of handing current WWE Champion Brock Lesnar a loss for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 121 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
At the time of the match, Cain was an undefeated challenger looking to win his first of two heavyweight championships.
A huge wrestling fan, Cain has wrestled in Mexico as part of AAA and in the United States for the WWE before the latter released him amidst some budget cuts on April 28, 2020.
Prior to his release, he was brought in by Rey Mysterio (storyline) after Brock Lesnar regularly brutalized him and his son Dominik on Smackdown’s 20th anniversary episode.
His push in the WWE saw him challenge Lesnar for the WWE Championship at Crown Jewel on October 31, 2019, but Lesnar defeated him to retain and then worked Cain over with a chair.
Cain was supposed to take part in the 2020 Royal Rumble in January, but he suffered an injury and the plans were canceled and he didn’t appear in the WWE again.
He returned to AAA and has worked there since, but his MMA career was never far from fans minds.
Cain, who is 39 years old, hasn’t had an MMA match since he was knocked out in 26 seconds by the current heavyweight Champion Frances Ngannou on February 17, 2019.
He hasn’t retired yet, which has led to fans speculating if he’s planning a comeback at some point.
