While the four main additions to the Ring of Honor Hall of fame were easily guessed – no one expected one last name to be in the mix. The Briscoes, Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe & CM Punk are all legends of the company – but Cary Silkin was the man who made their runs possible. This only makes it right that he’s in the inaugural ROH Hall of Fame class, as the first winner of the Legacy Award.
Cary Silkin Is The Man Who Kept Ring of Honor Afloat
The reason for his inclusion would be made clear on Ring of Honor’s website – which said the following.
Silkin, who became a partner in ROH not long after its inception in 2002, bought the company outright in 2004. ROH experienced significant growth under Silkin’s ownership.
After starting out as a DVD-based promotion that held shows primarily in Philadelphia, ROH expanded its reach by holding live events throughout the U.S. as well as the U.K. and Japan.
In addition, the company began producing pay-per-view events, entered into the TV realm via HDNet Fights, and innovated the field of iPPV as it pertained to pro wrestling.
Although ROH had a rabid fan base and produced an in-ring product that was unparalleled in the U.S., the company was losing money. Silkin kept ROH alive even though it was a financial drain on him for several years.
Silkin ensured that ROH would continue by selling it to Sinclair Broadcast Group in 2011.
Simply put – without Cary Silkin, there would have been no Ring of Honor in 2022.
Being Purchased By Tony Khan Has Secured Their Future
With ROH now being owned by AEW, their future is more secure than ever. Current plans include a Hall of Fame ceremony – as well as their return to the ring with Supercard of Honor on April 1st. Increased AEW talent involvement is expected, with the likes of Top Flight, Jay Lethal, and Swerve Strickland expected to show up.
There are even chances for Bryan Danielson & CM Punk to be on this show – with both signed to AEW. We are likely to see the best version of ROH in years, and without a doubt – Cary Silkin will still have involvement in the company.
