Earlier this year, fans were surprised to see news of Corey Graves getting cleared to return to the ring. Some newer fans to WWE didn’t even know the commentator originally came into WWE – but he was recruited after a career which saw him enter the ring for companies like Ring of Honor. However, a series of concussions would force him into retirement – and soon after he’d get a chance to become part of the WWE NXT commentary team. The rest is history, and Graves isn’t keen on giving up his comfy job on the WWE commentary desk.
Corey Graves Doesn’t Intend To Give Up His Spot On Commentary
During an interview with The Athletic, Corey Graves would say that despite having been cleared to return to the ring – he has no plans to pursue a full time in-ring return.
“Three years ago, I might have had a different answer. But I have grown so confident and comfortable in this new role that I’m in, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.I thought to myself, man, I dedicated my life to coming to WWE and being a WWE Superstar. That option got taken away because of medical reasons. But I’m still here; I’m not going to let them kick me out, you know what I mean? I’m going to make myself as valuable as possible.”
Right now, Corey Graves is set to call the action on both nights of Wrestlemania 38. Graves will also be hosting the 2022 Hall of Fame ceremony alongside Kayla Braxton. He has not wrestled a match since April of 2014. During his time in WWE NXT, he would claim the NXT Tag Team Championships alongside Adrian Neville (now PAC in All Elite Wrestling). Following being cleared, Graves simply claimed he would open to doing stuff in the ring ‘once in a blue moon’.
