While a lot of focus right now in the world of professional wrestling is set on Wrestlemania, some fans are more excited for the return of Ring of Honor. After going on hiatus back in December 2021, the future of the company was up in the air. Having since been bought by AEW owner Tony Khan, things are more secure than ever before. However, there is one championship that remains in flux – and it’s held by Impact Wrestling’s Deonna Purrazzo.
The ROH World Women’s Championship Has Already Has A Busy History – And Deonna Purrazzo’s Reign Might Be Brief
Ahead of ROH shutting down in December 2021, there was a major push over the year to rebuild their women’s division. Gone was the tired Women Of Honor branding, and in was a brand new ROH World Women’s Championship to take it’s place.
A tournament was held to name a first champion, with Rok-C defeating Miranda Alize in the finals. Rok-C would only manage a few defenses, most notably against Willow Nightingale at ROH Final Battle 2021 – End Of An Era. After this, one more televised defence against Holidead was made, before Deonna Purrazzo won a title vs. title match on Impact Wrestling.
Since then, Rok-C has signed a contract with WWE – and is set for a debut on WWE NXT 2.0 soon. Purrazzo has since flaunted her status as a double champion, also holding the AAA Reina de Reinas championship. She’s had five successful defenses, but seeing as Tony Khan is trying to get the belts on people under contract with him – her next at Supercard of Honor could be her last.
Supercard of Honor Could See A Few Titles Change Hands
Purrazzo will be working double duty of April 1st, having a title defense set for Impact Wrestling: Multiverse of Matches, while also being required to show up at Supercard of Honor. This makes it likely her title defense in ROH could wind up being a squash match, with some likely names being Max The Impaler or AEW’s Serena Deeb.
Jonathan Gresham & Josh Woods are expected to remain as ROH World & ROH Pure Champions, with Gresham rumored to have signed with AEW. The Briscoes are defending the ROH World Tag Team Championships against FTR, and pressure from Warner Media to not sign The Briscoes could see FTR claim more tag team gold.
