Elton John has recalled the moment in which Queen Elizabeth had slapped someone in the Royal family.
Elton John Recalls Queen Elizabeth II ‘Slapping’ A Member Of The Royal Family-She ‘Gave Me A Wink And Walked Off’
Elton, for his part, is well acquainted with the Royal family. He had famously performed his hit song ‘Candle in the Wind’ at Princess Diana’s funeral.
And this was based on the back end of a good relationship he had with Diana after having met her in 1981. Through these interactions, the singer also forged a bond with Prince Harry.
But it was his encounter with Queen Elizabeth that left him with many talking points. In his book entitled “Me: Elton John’, the ‘Rocketman’, Elton opened up on an interaction he saw involving the Queen with Viscount Linley.
The latter’s mother Princess Margaret was apparently ill, but when Viscount Linley was not too keen to check up on her, the Queen responded with a slap.
In his comments, Elton wrote: “When he [Linley] repeatedly tried to fob her off, the Queen lightly slapped him across the face, saying ‘Don’t’ – SLAP – ‘argue’ – SLAP – ‘with’ – SLAP – ‘me’ – SLAP – ‘I’ – SLAP – ‘am’ – SLAP – ‘THE QUEEN!’
“As he left, she saw me [Elton] staring at her, gave me a wink and walked off.” This was clearly meant to be in jest, rather than the Queen inflicting any major damage.
And this demonstrates that the monarch has a side to her that the public do not often see. In and amongst her Royal duties is a person that is very witty.
That is precisely what Elton managed to see, which did take him by surprise. He added: “I know the Queen’s public image isn’t exactly one of wild frivolity. But in private, she could be hilarious.”
The reaction from the public on social media was one of laughter. People found the Queen’s directness, as the last thing they expected to see coming from her. One person wrote: “She sounds a hoot! Thats pretty funny!”
It is safe to say that the Queen does have a sense of humour. And it is probably wise that people do not get on the wrong side of her. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
