Kazuchika Okada was able to break past Taichi to move to the quarter finals of the New Japan Cup, but isn’t able to avoid facing him in a six man tag team match. Okada has Hirooki Goto & YOH to back him up tonight, while Taichi has DOUKI & Minoru Suzuki.
CHAOS Get The Win Over Suzuki-Gun
Taichi would start with Okada, picking up where they left off in their match yesterday. Okada would nail the floating senton over the top rope, before YOH & Goto hit the ring to beat Taichi like a drum. Taichi would get YOH with the Greco Roman Throat Hold, before the referee would insist it was a choke.
Suzuki would tag in and apply a heel hook on YOH, and while Goto just watched – Okada tried to break the submission up… and ended up with his ankle caught. DOUKI would hit the ring as YOH would connect with the dropkick. Suzuki got the tag back into the ring, and YOH would fight to the CHAOS corner to get Goto in.
The spinning wheel kick into the corner on Suzuki would land, and the bulldog got a two count. Suzuki would get the Rear Naked Choke, but didn’t hold it for nearly long enough before looking for the Gotch Style Piledriver. Suzuki-Gun would attack Goto three on one, with DOUKI stomping Goto down as Suzuki & Taichi held him off the mat.
Daybreak DDT was countered into the GTW – and this one was over. Okada is already on his way to the quarter finals, where he will face CIMA in singles action.
Jeff Cobb Doesn’t Allow The Massive Upset From YOSHI-HASHI
Jeff Cobb has been damn near unstoppable in NJPW over the past few years, with him nearly running a perfect G1 Climax in 2021. Now, he’s looking to win his first New Japan Cup, and YOSHI-HASHI is not likely to give him a massive amount of issues. YOSHI-HASHI has been working his best matches ever lately, and knows to go after the knee of Cobb if he wants a chance of pushing to the quarter finals.
YOSHI-HASHI would kick Cobb in the midsection and apply the side headlock, but Cobb was easily able to shove him off. Cobb would allow YOSHI-HASHI to attempt the shoulder tackle, only to send him tumbling to the outside with a tackle of his own. YOSHI-HASHI would bait Cobb to come to the outside, where he’d trip him off the apron and drive him into the barricade.
This would just anger Cobb, who slammed YOSHI-HASHI down before standing on his throat. Back in the ring, Cobb lifted YOSHI-HASHI high before dropping him with the delayed Vertical Suplex. Going to the knee, YOSHI-HASHI would hit the dropkick and dragon screw, exploiting the injury from Wrestle Kingdom.
A Harder Fought Win Than Jeff Cobb Expected
Some fast strikes and another dropkick to the knee would get the opening, and the Blockbuster from the top rope would get the two count. Cobb was sent outside, but the plancha from YOSHI-HASHI would see him caught and driven into the ring post with an Oklahoma Stampede.
Back into the ring, a Pumphandle Suplex and standing moonsault got the two count. YOSHI-HASHI would manage to fire back with a Canadian Destroyer – before locking in the knee bar on Cobb. Cobb fought free and hit the Doctor Bomb, before a massive lariat. YOSHI-HASHI sprung back to his feet, but Spin Cycle would follow.
Tour of the Islands was attempted, but YOSHI-HASHI was able to blocked into another kneebar. YOSHI-HASHI had the legs grapevined, but Cobb got the bottom rope. Finally, YOSHI-HASHI looked to hit Karma, but had to settle for a lariat for the near fall. Fisherman Buster was able to get Cobb up, but he’d kick out at two.
Cobb would pop YOSHI-HASHI up for a headbutt, before Tour of The Islands for the win. Jeff Cobb has punched his ticket to the quarter finals. He will face either Tetsuya Naito or Hiroshi Tanahashi. This was also a win over one half of the IWGP Tag Team Champions, which could lead to a title shot if he doesn’t win the tournament.
