Kicking off action on tonight’s New Japan Cup card is a six man tag team match. Great Bash Heel will team with YOH to take on Six Or Nine & Hiroshi Tanahashi. Tanahashi, Wato & Taguchi are due for a shot at the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Championships after a win earlier in this tour, and could be looking to improve on their chemistry here tonight.
SANADA Injured With Broken Orbital Bone – Hiroshi Tanahashi
Before this match, we’d get an injury update. SANADA suffered a broken orbital bone during his match with Will Ospreay. The hope is for him to be back within three weeks, but with any injury around the head – there is cause of concern. His reign as IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion could be over before he even gets to defend the belt.
The opening match would start with YOH & Master Wato squaring off. Wato sent YOH to the mat with a shoulder tackle, before being tripped up and hit with a dropkick to the side of the head. Six Or Nine would get back at YOH with a double dropkick, before Taguchi would offer his ass a weapon as Tanahashi & Wato whipped YOH at it.
Honma would try and make the save, but Wato was able to shut him down. YOH would finally be able to stop Taguchi, and Makabe would hit some downward punches and the Northern Lights Suplex for a near fall. Lariat was set, but before Tanahashi got the tag – and was hit with Kokeshi.
Tanahashi took some chops to the throat before hitting Twist & Shout. Slingblade was blocked and Honma would hit a lariat. Tanahashi stood tall after a headbutt, and nailed Slingblade for a near fall. Texas Cloverleaf was applied, and Honma had no choice but to tap out.
SHO Is A Terror In The Ring
SHO is determined to get a shot at the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, El Desperado. He’s ran a set of sneak attacks on Desperado during this tour, and tonight brings Yujiro Takahashi to the ring for a tag team match – as they face the well seasoned duo of El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru.
El Desperado was ready to fight before the bell even rang, but SHO would coward away from him and take Yujiro into the match. DOUKI would get the tag, before being yanked down face first on the apron. SHO would drive Desperado into the barricade, before choking him on the floor.
DOUKI was attacked in the corner of the ring, before being able to drop Takahashi with the running cross chop. Desperado would finally get his hands on SHO, and applied the Numero Dos – and forced SHO to fight to the ropes. Takahashi would get the tag, and DOUKI met him with a missile dropkick – before the springboard Coffin Drop.
A top rope double stomp would follow, before DOUKI would fight off the Pimp Juice attempt. A backslide attempt would lead into Big Juice, and Yujiro Takahashi claims the win.
Guerrillas of Destiny Take Another Loss
Guerrillas Of Destiny have been slowly adjusting to their role as fan favourites in NJPW after being booted from BULLET CLUB – and tonight once again look to get some revenge. Bad Luck Fale, El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori are their opponents, but the rest of BULLET CLUB could be lurking close nearby.
Before BULLET CLUB even found the ring – Guerrillas of Destiny would attack from the crowd. Bad Luck Fale would stand tall in the ring before a double dropkick landed. Jado took the ring, which was a mistake. Fale took him down, before having his chest raked by ELP & Ishimori.
ELP would get a near fall after a front elbow drop, before Jado would use some agility to avoid the running splash from Fale. Loa would send Fale to the outside, and suddenly ELP was surrounded. He was dead to rights, before Gedo came to the ring and ran a distraction.
Jado would take Gedo’s brass knuckles but this distracted the referee for a low block and superkick for the finish. After the bell, Six Or Nine would come to the aid of Jado.
