Liverpudlian lightweight, Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett, has made no secret of his huge ambitions with the UFC. Highlight-reel finishes, massive pay checks, and a title run are all part of Paddy’s plan. His ultimate goal, however, is to headline a UFC event at the hallowed home ground of his beloved soccer team: Anfield, home of Liverpool FC.
At the UFC London media event, promoting his March 19 fight against Kazula Vargas, Pimblett reiterated his dream of fighting at Anfield.
Paddy Pimblett Promises UFC Anfield
“The first ever time I met Dana, I was in the Barstool studio and he was on the podcast before I was. I had a quick, short conversation with him but I haven’t got the chance to speak with Dana much. I hope he is in the O2 Arena when I walk out and get the finish because it is going to be spectacular.
The amount of people saying they want to see the UFC back in Liverpool, they’ll have to do a football stadium real soon.
I’m not being funny or trying to put other fighters down, but I can sell the O2 out on my own. Just put me on and I would sell it out, so they need a football stadium when I’m the main event. That’s a fact.”
Liverpool FC is one of the most decorated teams in the world, with nineteen English league titles and six European Championships. Pimblett is a loyal supporter of the club, often seen at games, fighting in red – the color of the team’s uniform – and adorning his fight shorts with the team’s logo. Bringing the UFC to Anfield was always on the agenda, says Pimblett.
“If you go back and watch interviews and podcasts before I got signed by the UFC, I always said, ‘I will get signed by the UFC, I’ll get a finish and I’ll get one interview in the cage and everyone will know who I am’.
I have always said it and it will continue. I have seen it all in my head and planned it all out. I know for a fact I will be winning that belt and fighting at Anfield in front of my home crowd, I just know.”
Paddy Pimblett made headlines with his 2021 UFC debut, knocking out Luigi Vendramini in the first round. He is promising yet another early finish when he appears at UFC London in March, and if he keeps up this pace Pimblett may well see a lightweight title charge in his future.
