Raquel Gonzalez has accepted Cora Jade as her tag team partner for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Now after two weeks of training? They’re ready for their first match of the tournament. Yulisa Leon & Valentia Feroz stand in their way – and hope to pull off a major first round upset, much like Malik Blade & Edris Enofe.
Cora Jade And Raquel Gonzalez To Meet Dakota Kai And Wendy Choo
The duo of Feroz & Leon got a great reaction from the crowd – but were the clear underdogs as the bell rang. Jade would start alongside Leon, and was thrown to the mat. Gonzalez tagged in, and would flaunt her power. Feroz got a tag, but was unable to hit the hurricanrana. Gonzalez blocked into a powerbomb attempt, before instead throwing Feroz into the corner.
Jade tagged in and nailed a hurricanrana before a knee strike. Feroz & Leon would take Gonzalez out on the floor, and were able to isolate Jade in the ring. A missile dropkick from Leon would get a two count, before Gonzalez got the tag. Single Arm powerbomb landed, and Jade was brought in and powerbombed onto Leon for the victory.
Jade & Gonzalez will now meet Dakota Kai & Wendy Choo in the semi-finals. The 2021 tournament was won by Gonzalez & Kai – and would lead to them being crowned the first ever NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Pete Dunne Remains Focused As He Looks For Gold
Pete Dunne has finally moved past Tony D’Angelo, and tonight he looks to claim singles gold once again in NXT. He’s taken aim at NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes in the past, but never got a singles match against ‘The A-Champion’. That is, until tonight, where he will go one on one with Hayes – with the gold on the line.
Dunne would lock up with Haye and take him right down to the mat. Hayes popped right back up, slid out of the way of the forearm and nailed the running lariat. Dunne shot back with a lariat of his own, before a PK to the spine. The arm of Hayes was manipulated, before Dunne kicked it away. The X-Plex would follow, dropping Hayes hard to the mat.
Hayes was learning all about the style of Dunne as his arm was once again manipulated – and a stomp hit his armpit. He’d strike back with some kicks, before having his arm attacked once again. A German Suplex was attempted, before Dunne was countered. Hayes hung Dunne up in the ropes, but missed the springboard leg drop. Trick Williams ran a distraction, and Hayes hit a slingshot DDT onto the apron.
Carmelo Hayes Calls For A Ladder Match At Stand & Deliver
A heavy forearm shot in the middle of the ring buckled the knees of Dunne in the ring. He’d fire right back with one of his own, before hitting a knee drop to the arm. Hayes went for the springboard, but Dunne took him out the sky with an elbow strike.
Dunne would see Hayes land on his feet out a German Suplex attempt before ending up in an ankle lock. Hayes broke free and hit a scissor kick, before being hit with Bitter End. Dunne would see Hayes roll away from the pinfall, before the triangle choke was applied. Hayes used the bottom rope to break the hold, before applying the crossface. Dunne broke free, and went for Bitter End again – only to take a Suplex Cutter.
Hayes went up top, and Williams saved his best friend. Dunne was shoved down, and the diving leg drop would keep Hayes as NXT North American Champion. He’d call for a ladder match in Texas – as he looks to truly prove he is the A-Champion.
