Samoa Joe in AEW has been the gift that keeps on giving. Since arriving he’s already qualified for the Owen Hart Memorial Cup, and won the ROH World Television Championship from Minoru Suzuki. Now it’s time to defend that championship against Trent Beretta. During his time in ROH, Beretta never claimed singles gold – and views tonight as possibly his final chance to do so.
Danhausen & HOOK Gain A Mutual Enemy
However before this match, we have some business to handle with two viral stars of AEW. Danhausen has been getting very annoyed with the antics of HOOK. He’s been trying to curse him, or really just get any reaction out of HOOK for weeks now. Finally, he got to HOOK by ruining an innocent bag of Lays Regular Chips.
This caused HOOK to speak for the first time on AEW programming, with him saying that Danhausen had gotten his attention. Tonight they meet face to face on AEW Rampage, and who knows what can happen next. Danhausen would wander out like the goblin he is. Very nice, very evil and all that.
He wants to destroy HOOK, because he’s been running amok without repercussions. So it’s time to send HOOK to the ring for his final moments in the ring. HOOK hit the ring with his fists taped and ready to fight. Danhausen realised he was in a pickle and didn’t want to fight, but HOOK did.
Smart Mark Sterling crashed the segment asking if everyone ACTUALLY wanted to see them fight. The crowd did, but Tony Nese did not. He’d hit HOOK & Danhausen from behind, and Nese was able to stand his ground briefly with HOOK before being thrown with a suplex. Danhausen would curse them, but it was HOOK stepping up that sent them running. The fans chanted for HOOKHausen, perhaps the Head Cheese of 2022.
Samoa Joe Doesn’t Intend To Lose His Gold Anytime Soon
Samoa Joe in AEW has been the gift that keeps on giving. Since arriving he’s already qualified for the Owen Hart Memorial Cup, and won the ROH World Television Championship from Minoru Suzuki. Code of Honor was adhered too, before Trent would apply a wrist lock. On commentary Ian Riccaboni would remind everyone about Joe’s 600+ day reign as ROH World Champion which started and ended in Philadelphia – where Rampage is tonight. Samoa Joe was able to break free of the wrist lock before hitting an enziguri in the corner.
Trent slipped to the outside, but Joe would look for the Elbow Suicida. This would be avoided, and Trent nailed a sliding knee strike before an asai moonsault. Joe would be able to battle back with a big boot right to the face of Trent, before some more heavy strikes in the ring capped off by a flashing elbow. Trent would have a hard time finding his feet once again, with Joe keeping him down with some very heavy chops.
Jay Lethal Remains A Thorn In The Side Of Joe
A powerbomb would be blocked by Trent before a dropkick sent Joe to the floor. Trent would go high risk with a diving crossbody, before a Saito Suplex in the middle of the ring. The tornado DDT would get Trent a near fall, with Joe starting to register pain.
Trent would look for Strong Zero, but Joe blocked into a powerbomb. The kick would lead to an STF which Joe moved into a crossface. Trent would get the ropes before being taken up into the Muscle Buster, but was able to block into a sunset flip.
Trent would go for the knee strike in the corner, but was planted with a urange. Rear Naked Choke was applied, and Trent would pass out. That’s defence #1 – and both men shook hands following the match as well. Tony Schiavone emerged in the ring for an interview, but Jay Lethal, Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt hit the ramp.
Orange Cassidy would stand up to the giant, and hit the deadly shinkicks before Lethal went after Joe in the ring. 18 years of history – Lethal once being the mentor of Joe. Everyone would hold them apart, and it’s clear these two need to fight soon.
