In WWE history the first is often forgotten or overlooked because it first is rarely that good or memorable. While the first WrestleMania is often the exception, the first Royal Rumble or King of the Ring—ehh, you could miss those. Sometimes, the same can even go for The Undertaker.
Taker: The New Kid on the Block
Then we have the first of The Streak. In November 1990, The Undertaker made his in-ring debut in the WWE. He was fed a steady diet of jabronis to build up his mystique and introduce fans to his early brand of destruction. This included putting beaten opponents into body bags following the bout.
After some time of clapping scrubs, he ran into a somewhat more seasoned challenge in Jimmy Snuka. Now, there’s not much to get into with the Jimmy Snuka feud as it wasn’t really the most interesting thing on the planet or in the company. You had this new, young, intimidating superstar and this popular veteran riding towards a match at WrestleMania VII
The First Notch in the Streak: The Undertaker vs. Jimmy Snuka
Much like the feud itself, this match doesn’t really give you much. Actually, it shouldn’t even be in “Best of the Streak”. It was less than five minutes with Snuka being soundly clapped or else there wouldn’t be a Streak.
The main thing of note here is that it was the beginning of one of the most legendary runs in pro wrestling and sports entertainment. It was one of the things that made WrestleMania special each year once fans realized or were reminded that “Hey, The Undertaker never lost at the most important event of the year.”
Before he even became a one-match-a-year attraction, The Undertaker became something of an achievement purely because of the Streak. The wrestler who defeated him first would be cemented in wrestling history. Sure, it took 23 years but that was one title that couldn’t be hot-shotted and one achievement that no one could take from a superstar—Brock Lesnar, obviously.
