Apparently, there’s been a bit of fact-checking into the first female flight attendant after someone posted an image of their great-grandmother—only it was a picture of Britney Spears.
Britney Spears Image Used as First Female Flight Attendant in Fact-Checked Social Media Post
A Twitter post where the poster claimed that their great-grandmother became the first female flight attendant in 1914 was debunked earlier this month on Saturday, April 9—the same day it was posted. However, whenever a tweet looks like it might pop on Twitter there are users who copy it and float it to their followers.
Then it makes its way onto other social media platforms and Facebook is a platform that often requires heavy fact-checking as users will float stuff that has already been fact-checked. That’s a reason why there was fact-checking weeks later. For your daily “Did You Know”, the first female flight attendant—Ellen Church—didn’t take up the profession until May 15, 1930, according to Lead Stories.
Now, as you can see from the archived post above…that’s Britney Spears. Not only is it Britney, but it’s also Britney from the 2004 music video to the banger “Toxic”. Yes, we’re talking In the Zone-era Britney, folks. She even won a Grammy for the song, so you’d figure this wouldn’t need fact-checking. I mean, it’s just her from almost 20 years ago with filters.
Music video is included purely because it slaps hard.
You could say it’s a bit annoying for people who have relatives that have made history only for someone to not even put in the effort. My great-uncle was one of the first Black undercover officers in Atlanta. Below is a picture of him at Christmas dinner in the early 1980s.
Only, that’s not my great-uncle, that’s not even from the early 80s. It’s WWE Class of 2012 Hall of Famer and former World Champion Ron Simmons and it’s a fairly recent image. It’s not difficult and honestly, this was most likely someone just trying to get a trend started on Twitter than trying to legitimately pass a 2004 image of Britney Spears off as their great-grandmother.
Then again, you can never be too certain in these social media streets.
What do you think? Was someone trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes? Is it an attempt at getting clout? Or was someone just joking around on social media? Let us know down below!
