The Coast Guard is currently looking for a Carnival Mardi Gras cruise passenger who jumped overboard. The cruise ship was heading back to Port Canaveral, Florida when he jumped from deck 7.
Coast Guard Continues Search for Man Who Jumped Off a Carnival Mardi Gras Cruise Ship
According to TMZ, another passenger witnessed two panic-stricken teens breeze past her on deck 7 of the ship. They were coming from the direction where the man jumped off in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 16.
The passenger said they were yelling that someone fell over the edge. As expected, the reaction was mixed as some figured it was a joke while others were equally panicking. The gravity of the situation hit everyone on board once the ship’s security became involved. Shortly afterward, the Coast Guard came to better search the area.
Carnival stuck around to assist in the search before continuing on to Port Canaveral. Currently, the Coast Guard is still searching for the 43-year-old who was on the cruise with his family. A Carnival spokesperson talked with TMZ about the cruise line’s move following the situation:
“The Carnival Care Team is supporting the guest’s family. Mardi Gras is arriving to Port Canaveral this morning and will be sailing to its next itinerary. Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and his family.”
The incident marks the third time in two months that someone has jumped off of a Carnival cruise ship. In March, a man jumped off of the Carnival Horizon and his body was recovered some time afterward in the Caribbean Sea. A month before that, a woman got into a row with security on the Carnival Valor before jumping into the Gulf of Mexico.
Here’s hoping that the passenger is found safe and reunited with his family.
